Numerical Values

Numerical values play an integral role in HMIs, and therefore the HELIO IDE and the HELIO Docs.

To make sure they're easy to read, it's crucial to keep the formatting consistent.

Guidelines

Do

  1. To make sure the numbers are lined up right across multiple lines, use either a monospaced font or the font-variant: tabular-nums.
  2. Separate value and unit using a non-breaking space
  3. Use en dashes to show numerical ranges. Do not use spaces between numbers and the dash.

Chicago Manual of Style

A numeral used with an abbreviated unit of measure is best left intact; either the numeral should be carried over to the next line or the abbreviation should be moved up. A nonbreaking space can prevent such breaks (see 6.129). (Numerals used with spelled-out units of measure, which tend to form longer expressions, may be broken across a line as needed.)
